This wasn't a groundbreaking or beautifully-written book. Most of its information was fairly familiar, and it depended heavily on inspiring quotations and anecdotes from people who have changed their careers. Right, so this didn’t suck? It’s not like it’s changed my life or anything, and I definitely skipped entire sections when my eyes got bored, but it’s given me a nice little boost of motivation to just keep going (nothing too intense) and stay happy.

I picked up this book out of curiosity and love for Sir Ken Robinson's concepts. I felt at 58 years age I had nothing much to learn about finding my passions. I was proven totally wrong. Although a light read, this book was basically boring. There were far too many anecdotal stories of individuals finding their element (a.k.a passion) which soon made the book repetitive and tiresome. I am not a fan of self-help books at the best of time and this one certainly didn't endear me to the genre. In fact, the exercises suggested throughout Finding Your Element terrified me! Mind maps, vision boards, etc. . . . Argh!!!!
Ken Robinson’s The Element created something of a paradigm shift. Ken provided quite a few examples of how they find the element and the organic part of the entire process. Finding our element is really more about inside out approach rather then molding ourselves to the readily available labels or tags. I very much liked Ken Robinson's conquering personality ever since I discovered him on YouTube. He's a kind of teacher that any parent would want for his child. He's passionate about research into non-formal education. His books appear to be that boring kind of self-help-development books but only at first glance. I'm literally squeezing information out of my brain to put into words the importance of the work that 'Finding Your Element' has made me do. But I can't. It's too much. I believe that in order to honestly critique a work such as this, you need to take it seriously and do the work. Thus it is taking me time to read. Self help books are as always cliched. But we certainly do need reminders in our life, hence i believe it's beneficial to read them once in a while.
